So remember, remember the 5th of November.... and wrap up warm, bring a flask (of coffee or stronger!)
Hopefully see you then - and as always friends, family and new members always welcome! My telephone number for those who are looking for us is 07710 989894

Christmas comes Early!
Joint GYW/Lomond Mountaineering Club dinner & ceilidh - first social outside of Glasgow!
Onich Hotel, just north of Glen Coe
Saturday November 14th
The cost is £20 per person which will include a buffet followed by a plenty of drinking, ceilidh dancing, and generally having a good time.
A low to medium level walk has been pencilled in for the Saturday afternoon, weather permitting. The walk is three miles north of the hotel on the hills after crossing the Corrin Ferry. There will also be another optional walk the following day up the Pap of Glen Coe starting at 11am.
Transport Options
Share a lift or alternatively there is a City Link bus service from Buchanan Street in Glasgow to Onich. Transport arrangements will be finalised at a later date.
Accommodation
Have a look at http://www.glencoe-scotland.net/accommodation.html
or even better the list that Bethany has put together (21/10/09)
1) Onich Hotel: still has some rooms for £35 per person for B&B - a few of us are staying there.
2) SYHA at Glen Coe has dorm beds available for about £15 per person per bed - this will involve a taxi each way for about £3 (each way).
3) Creag Mhor Lodge: has twin rooms for £26.50 per person for B&B (she assures me it is an amazing breakfast). This is about 1 mile away from the ceilidh so could potentially be within walking distance - depending on what height your stilletto heels are.
4) Corran Inn: has one twin bedroom left which is £16 per person per night.http://www.glencoe-scotland.net/accommodation.html
Please e-mail back to the GYW email address and let us know if you wish to attend. People do not need to pay until the dinner, but it would be appreciated if you would only sign up if you can make a firm commitment to attend, as this will make organisation much easier.
If you are happy to pay in advance then please send a cheque for £20 made payable to Lomond Mountaineering Club and send it to Richard Baynes, 7 Southview Terrace, Bishopbriggs, Glasgow, G64 1RZ.

Friday 19th June
Treasure Hunt Pub Crawl.
Starting in the Oran Mor Pub (junction of Great Western Road and Byres Road)
Please meet here between 6.30-7pm. This will give us 30 minutes to explain the treasure hunt and split you into groups so you can set off at 7.30pm.
What does this involve?
You will be split into 3 groups and set off on your treasure hunt.
Before you leave you will be given a list of tasks to complete, photos to take, items to collect whilst you navigate your way around the pubs in the west end.
These tasks will earn you points and these points will make the difference between being in the winning team and not! The tasks are not hard so please do not be put off because you think you do not know enough, are unfamilar with the west end or are too unfit.
You will be given a maximum of 90 minutes to complete your treasure hunt.
At 9pm we expect you to be back at Oran Mor with as many tasks completed as possible and we will score your efforts and crown the winners!
If you would like to join in then please email bethany with your name and any questions or queries asap but definitely by Thurs 18th June (bethanyjaitken@yahoo.co.uk).
Everyone is invited - old and new members - and if you are unable to join in the Treasure Hunt then please feel free to come to Oran Mor for a few drinks when the hunt finishes at 9pm.
I'm looking forward to seeing everyone on the 19th June. Thank you.

8pm Stube, Kilmarnock Road
Due to the growing number of Southsiders in the group, Glasgow Young Walkers (well actually myself more to the point) have decided it's high time we have a night out in Shawlands!
For those who have not experienced the delights of Shawlands, it's a lovely wee suburb about 15/20 minutes from the city centre by bus. It's got a great night life and is full of cafes, bars, clubs and pubs so there is plenty of choice.
The plan is to meet on Friday 15th May, 8pm at Stube on Kilmarnock Road (just across from the Shawlands Arcade) then make our way down Kilmarnock Road, sampling the various bars along the way. I am aware that there is a walk on the next day, but it's low level so those that wish to do both should be able to do so.
The pubs we will probably go to are Stube, The Social and The Granary, then we could finish off the night at the Waverley Tearooms (this is usually open late). For those who wish to do some dancing, there is Tusk, the club next door to the Tearooms, or the Shed which is just a hop, skip and a jump away from Tusk (or maybe more of a crawl by that time!)
Bye for now!

Pub Night
Saturday 21st February 2009 - Uisge Beatha, Woodlands Road
From 8pm
The next pub night is in Uisge Beatha, Woodlands Road where we have an area reserved so hopefully you will be able to find us!
The pub is part of the Drovers group so very apt for the walking group- we should have a nice cosy spot to warm up all the walkers who have been out to Luss during the day!
It is open to all, so not just members, so feel free to invite friends and anyone you may know who is interested in joining the group. It is a great way to meet everyone and if you are like me who hasn't ventured out in the cold and snow it's a good way to meet other members and make some new friends!
Friday 9th January 2009 - Oran Mor, Byres Road
To start the New Year we have a pub night organised in Oran Mor at the top of Byres Road. Hope to see you there from 8pm. We have a table reserved - and there is no walk on the Saturday - so no excuses for going home early?!
Hopefully this will be a good opportunity for any new members to come along (those with New Year resolutions!) and a chance to catch up with others after the hectic festivities!
